Master Trainer of Trainers

Motomoke Eomba, Africa Region Training Advisor in action!!

The Women's Leadership Program (WLP), funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, transforms lives through innovative programming.

WLP Participants go through a 10-day intensive and highly participatory workshop, including repeated opportunities to practice various training skills and provide constructive feedback to each other.  The focus is on building critical training competencies, rather than subject specific expertise.

Key topics include:

v    Understanding the principles of experiential, participatory learning;

v    Identifying learning styles and the most appropriate training approaches for each;

v    Conducting training needs/capacity assessments;

v    Designing, implementing, and evaluating high quality training programs;

v    Developing learner-centered training objectives;

v    Selecting the most effective training methods for achieving training goals and objectives;

v    Using feedback effectively to enhance group process;

v    Building and maintaining a positive learning climate;

v    Assessing training competencies and developing a personal learning plan.

The certification of CEDPA Certified Trainers is part of CEDPA’s efforts under its Women’s Leadership Program (WLP) to develop a worldwide network of Trainers available to work with CEDPA and its partners to identify, train, and mentor Women Leaders. The goal of WLP is to ensure that women have the necessary leadership skills to expand key reproductive health and women’s empowerment programs and to advocate for women’s rights at the local, national, regional and/or international levels. Forming a cadre of highly skilled trainers to support these efforts is critical to achieving this goal.

CEDPA’s certification process comprises four stages, which together take approximately one year to complete and are financed by CEDPA/WLP.

They are:

v    Advanced Training of Trainers Workshop;

v    Development of Personal Learning Plan by the WLP/Alumni

v    Ongoing Mentoring and Development between the Africa Region Training Advisor and the WLP Alumni;

v    Independent Design and Facilitation of a Workshop by WLP Alumni.

Throughout the process, the candidates work with a team of internationally experienced CEDPA Trainers, led by Africa Region Training Advisor.  This process provides experienced Trainers with an intensive, high level learning experience that focuses on strengthening participatory, learner-centered training skills. Each stage includes a combination of self-evaluation and assessment by the CEDPA Africa Region Training Advisor and colleagues to support and develop ATOT candidates’ capacity to conduct high quality training programs.

Upon successful completion of the four stages, candidates will be certified as CEDPA Master Trainers.
